In               Colorado               Springs,               there               are               several               big               events               each               year.

One               of               the               most               spectacular               is               the               Colorado               Balloon               Classic.

When               you               are               parked               on               the               grass               on               the               south               side               of               Prospect               Lake,               you               get               the               full               breathtaking               view,               of               a               field               full               of               almost               cartoon               like               creatures               rising               into               the               dawn's               pink               light.

               Always               held               each               year               on               Labor               Day               Weekend,               in               Memorial               Park,               in               Colorado               Springs,               CO.

It               is               a               "free"               event               that               attracts               1000's               of               people.

The               event               has               grown               to               over               100               hot-air               balloons               over               the               years.

Opening               ceremonies               and               concessions               always               starts               about               6               a.m.

There               is               a               giant               smiling               house               with               various               animated               characters               on               the               side,               and               a               kaleidoscope               of               multi-colored               balloons.

The               skydiver's               are               professional               and               well-trained               to               give               you               a               heart               attack               several               times               during               the               course               of               the               day.


               The               schedule               also               includes               numerous               radio               controlled               model               aircraft               exhibitions               and               exciting               aerobatic               hang               gliders.If               you               like               to               watch               the               ultra-lite               aircraft,               there               will               be               several               demonstrations               and               feats               of               acrobatic               skill               performed               by               those               pilots.
               The               balloons               seem               like               balls               of               color               floating               on               the               crisp               cool               air.

They               bounce               around               the               sky               for               hours               on               end.

The               whole               day               is               full               of               excitement               and               fun.
               Not               only               is               the               Colorado               Balloon               Classic               an               exciting               public               event,               but               it               raises               lots               of               money               for               charities               across               the               El               Paso               County               area.

In               2005               the               Colorado               Balloon               Classic               created               a               Literacy               Program               to               support               local               schools.

The               Pikes               Peak               Library               District               designed               a               mascot,               Captain               Bookworm,               that               is               sold               each               year               since,               at               the               event               to               benefit               the               district's               literacy               programs.


               The               2006               Classic               resulted               in               over               1,000               books               being               donated               to               the               students               at               Stratmoor               Hills               Elementary               School.


               Each               year               a               local               charity               is               chosen               by               the               organizers               of               the               to               support.

Proceeds               from               the               sale               of               tickets,and               most               of               the               concessions               are               donated               to               the               charity               of               the               year.
               The               Colorado               Balloon               Classic               grows               by               leaps               and               bounds               each               year.
